Tal Al-Rumman Women Graduate from the RBG's 1st Sewing Course

All 14 women from the community of Tal Al-Rumman who registered for the first 4-month sewing course organized by the Artisanal Workshop of the Royal Botanic Garden have successfully completed their training.

A graduation ceremony took place at the RBG on Wednesday August 10, 2011, under the Patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali.

Yasmine Pharaon, Coordinator of the RBG’s Income Generating Programme, thanked the women for participating and congratulated them on their achievement.

Princess Basma presented each graduate with a certificate from the Royal Botanic Garden, along with a certificate from the Mubis Women’s Society issued by the Ministry of Social Development.

Princess Basma also gave gifts to the women, and emphasized that this training workshop is the beginning of a fruitful long-term relationship between the women of Tal Al-Rumman and the RBG.

Prior to the graduation, representatives from Jordan’s Vocational Training Center and the Ministry of Social Development evaluated the work of the women in a two-hour examination.

The Royal Botanic Garden intends to offer additional sewing workshops during the year and plans to hire women to work with the RBG on developing hand-crafted items to be sold throughout the Kingdom.
