HRH Princess Basma bint Ali, founder of the Garden, was the guest of honour at the GA 2011 and delivered the opening speech.

The GA Congress, so named from the original German title Gesellschaft für Arzneiplanzen und Naturstoff-Forschung, has been organized annually since 1953 in order to stimulate cooperation among international scientists for the advancement of research and development in phytomedicine, medicinal and aromatic plants and their products.
