Leaves: 2-3 m long, pinnate, with spiny thick petiole

Flowers: Unisexual, small, arranged in compound panicular spikes, usually enclosed in a spathe before opening

Flowering: March-April

Fruit: Dates, variable in size and colour, ranging from yellow to red

Habitat: Hot wet conditions, Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Wadi Araba, Aqaba and Azraq Oasis
